GLOW - 2017 Fall Benefit Contribution

Dear Friend of The Woman's Board,

For 133 years, The Woman's Board of Rush University Medical Center has been making a difference in the lives of Chicago residents through its community projects.  In 2017, The Woman's Board will continue this tradition by supporting an innovative program that will impact the lives of thousands of Chicago children and their families.

With the help of donors like you, we are raising funds for the Medical Center's community outreach initiatives including the 2017 principal project, Rush's School-Based Mental Health Program.  This community project will provide mental health screenings and a treatment network to assist children, families, front-line community members and first responders on Chicago's West Side.

The Woman's Board has pledged $450,000 to implement this program in three Chicago public schools where Rush has operated school-based health clinics for more than 20 years: Simpson Academy for Young Women (serving pregnant teens and teen moms in grades six through twelve), Orr Academy High School (focused on leadership and college prep) and Richard T. Crane Medical Preparatory High School (a four-year medical vocational school for allied health fields).

Rush has already seen a significant impact at these three School-Based Medical Centers:

  • The school clinics see more than 1,400 youth each year in more than 4,000 visits.
  • More than 1,854 immunizations are given annually.
  • 100% graduation rate (vs CPS average graduation rate of 69.4%) for parenting girls at Simpson Academy.
  • Pregnancy rates for teens at Simpson Academy are down from 30% to 4% in the last five years.
  • 760 counseling sessions with more than 20% of teens at these three schools are diagnosed with mental health issues.

Together We Can Make A Greater Difference!  We hope that you will join us in supporting this important initiative.  Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Pamela Fitzgerald, 2017 Fall Benefit Chair & Debra S. Beck, Woman's Board President
